بسم هللا الرحمن الرحيم نحمده ونصلي م على رسوله الكريم Dear Member Where millions of Hujjaj from every corner of the globe would have been gathered on the plains of Arafah chanting “Labbayk, Allahumma Labbayk. Here I am, O Allah, here I am”, due to the pandemic, only approximately one thousand pilgrims have been blessed with the opportunity to grace these sacred plains this year. In the prelude to the celebration of Eid al Adha, throughout the world, every Muslim will be reciting the Takbir al-Tashreeq after every Fard Salaah until Asar on 13 Dhul Hijjah, in unison with the fortunate Hujjaj this year. Eid al Adha is synonymous with sacrifice, where we offer qurbani in emulation of the test faced by Nabi Ebrahim (AS) who was prepared to sacrifice his son Ismail in total subjugation to our Creator. Presently we all should be absorbed in absolute devotion to our Creator to seek His mercy and to beseech Him to relieve us from this pandemic. The whole world is in tumult as this pandemic has created tremendous hardship for society which has required them, too, to make sacrifices owing to straitened finances, and by keeping away from their loved ones, even to the point of not being able to pay their last respects to those who have passed on, so that we help stop the spread of the virus. Others have continued to selflessly put themselves and their families at risk as they continue to serve as dedicated frontline health care workers. On this day of Eid al Adha we also remember the many families that have lost their...

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيمنحمده ونصلي ونسلّم على رسوله الكريم Dear MemberAs we welcome the month of Dhul Hijjah, we are also saddened that, this year, the sense of global Islamic unity and solidarity that is usually prevalent during Hajj season will not be palpable due to the pandemic engulfing our world. The significance and sacredness of the first ten days of this month are well documented, and we need to aspire to attain the blessings on offer during these ten days through heightening our spiritual connection and supporting community upliftment. Moreover, during this pandemic, we are acutely aware that many people in our midst have and continue to experience trauma in one form or another. Many people have lost their jobs and, as a result, face untold hardship. Many people have also lost their loved ones during this period. Our condolences go out to each and everyone who has lost family members and dear friends. It is in this context that our food parcel campaign is helpful and supportive to our JHESS beneficiaries prior to Eid ul Adha. We remain grateful to our donors. We welcome any further contributions and support, which can be done by depositing your donation into the account below. بسم الله الرحمن الرحيمنحمده ونصلي ونسلّم على رسوله الكريم Dear MemberAt the outset I wish to convey our deepest condolences to the family of the Imam at Azzawia Mosque on the sad loss of Shaykh Seraj Hendricks yesterday. Our heartfelt condolences also go to the Sonday family on the passing of Kulsum Shukoor Sonday. We pray that Allah grants both Marhoom Jannatul Firdaus and sabr to the families.Over the past 100-plus days, the COVID-19 virus has changed our lives completely, impacting on our religious norms (attendance at congregational prayers and burials), social practices (family, friends and societal engagements) and curtailing or destroying our livelihoods. We have had to adopt new norms and behavioural patterns to survive and protect ourselves from this virus.JHESS acted with foresight at the end of March 2020 by switching to holding virtual meetings and launching the COVID-19 Humanitarian Fund. This week we were called upon to assist the Tygerberg Hospital ICU with washing machines. The ICU had purchased reusable PPE to minimise their reliance on the high demand for disposal PPE gear and consequently needed washing machines to ensure availability of the reusable PPE.I am pleased to inform you that we were able to provide the washing machines to the ICU and in a small way assist the health workers to continue rendering a service to patients in the ICU during this pandemic and beyond.Once again we acknowledge the contribution of our donors and extend our appreciation for their support. May Allah reward you, In Shaa Allah. We are in the month of Dhul Qada (2nd last month of the Islamic calendar), one of the four sacred months. Under...

South Africa is rapidly reaching the peak of the pandemic, with almost 10, 000 cases being recorded per day.We now have to live with the stark reality that we cannot be there to bury our loved ones as many of us are becoming infected or because of the restrictions.Collectively we need to remain united and look beyond our differences to ensure that we continue to be mindful of our behaviour and actions to defeat and eliminate the COVID-19 virus. There is emerging evidence that is cause for concern in that we might have underestimated the role of the airborne transmission of the Covid-19 virus. It is absolutely imperative that we wear our masks at all times.Continue to be vigilant and adhere to the GOLDEN RULES below: MAINTAIN PHYSICAL DISTANCE IN PUBLICWEAR YOUR MASK PROPERLYMAINTAIN GOOD HAND HYGIENEDISINFECT WORKING SURFACES REGULARLY AT WORK AND HOME PROTECT THE MOST VULNERABLE STAY VIGILANT SAVE LIVES Dr Nisaar KorowlayIssued: 10 July...
