URGENT COVID-19 Update

Over the past ten days, the daily infection rate in South Africa has been averaging ± 2,200. Yesterday we recorded 3,200 infections. This is a significant increase. The Premier of the Western Cape issued a statement this past Wednesday indicating a 52% increase over the last week alone, primarily in the Cape Metro and the Garden Route districts.A snap survey of local medical practices has also indicated a daily increase in reported infections of ± 6 per day this week, following a lull in September and October. We therefore call on all our members and families to stick to the Golden Rules of wearing a mask, maintaining physical distancing, washing hands regularly and minimising attendance at gatherings, social events and shopping malls. These are super spreader areas that are best avoided. The fact that over 21,000 people have succumbed to this virus is a sober reminder of the virulence of this disease, and the number is increasing.Despite the relaxation of the alert levels to increase economic activity and protect livelihoods, COVID-19 is around. We are entering the holiday period and, given that it is the end of the school or university year, coupled with the lockdown fatigue people are experiencing, most of us will be tempted to socialise and meet up with friends.Young people, please be cautious as you could be asymptomatic and endanger your parents or grandparents. Once again, stick to the Golden Rules. We call on you to implement self-lockdown behaviour and respect the lives of your loved ones and the greater community. Each one of us should act responsibly, be vigilant and adhere to the rules at all times so that we...

Message from JHESS President Update 14

بسم هللا الرحمن الرحيم نحمده ونصلي م على رسوله الكريم Dear Member Where millions of Hujjaj from every corner of the globe would have been gathered on the plains of Arafah chanting “Labbayk, Allahumma Labbayk. Here I am, O Allah, here I am”, due to the pandemic, only approximately one thousand pilgrims have been blessed with the opportunity to grace these sacred plains this year. In the prelude to the celebration of Eid al Adha, throughout the world, every Muslim will be reciting the Takbir al-Tashreeq after every Fard Salaah until Asar on 13 Dhul Hijjah, in unison with the fortunate Hujjaj this year. Eid al Adha is synonymous with sacrifice, where we offer qurbani in emulation of the test faced by Nabi Ebrahim (AS) who was prepared to sacrifice his son Ismail in total subjugation to our Creator. Presently we all should be absorbed in absolute devotion to our Creator to seek His mercy and to beseech Him to relieve us from this pandemic. The whole world is in tumult as this pandemic has created tremendous hardship for society which has required them, too, to make sacrifices owing to straitened finances, and by keeping away from their loved ones, even to the point of not being able to pay their last respects to those who have passed on, so that we help stop the spread of the virus. Others have continued to selflessly put themselves and their families at risk as they continue to serve as dedicated frontline health care workers. On this day of Eid al Adha we also remember the many families that have lost their...

Message from JHESS President Update 13

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيمنحمده ونصلي ونسلّم على رسوله الكريم Dear MemberAs we welcome the month of Dhul Hijjah, we are also saddened that, this year, the sense of global Islamic unity and solidarity that is usually prevalent during Hajj season will not be palpable due to the pandemic engulfing our world. The significance and sacredness of the first ten days of this month are well documented, and we need to aspire to attain the blessings on offer during these ten days through heightening our spiritual connection and supporting community upliftment. Moreover, during this pandemic, we are acutely aware that many people in our midst have and continue to experience trauma in one form or another. Many people have lost their jobs and, as a result, face untold hardship. Many people have also lost their loved ones during this period. Our condolences go out to each and everyone who has lost family members and dear friends. It is in this context that our food parcel campaign is helpful and supportive to our JHESS beneficiaries prior to Eid ul Adha. We remain grateful to our donors. We welcome any further contributions and support, which can be done by depositing your donation into the account below.
