During the past week, the new COVID -19 infections in our country have been averaging over 6,000 a day, a 50% increase over the previous week’s daily average.
This is a clear indication that we are heading into the eye of the storm of this pandemic, as predicted by our scientists and health experts. We must take the necessary precautionary steps!
Prayer & Precautions
We continue to pray that Allah grants all those touched by this virus a speedy recovery and seek His mercy to protect us all, In Shaa Allah. Ameen.
The non-pharmaceutical guidelines should be adhered to and implemented diligently in our homes so that we can prevent the further spread of this virus.
We should continue with physical distancing, wear masks properly and wash hands regularly. Limit visits to family and friends, and attendance at social gatherings.
These small steps will make a big difference and you can make that difference.
Adapting to new norms
Scientists and experts are predicting that a vaccine will only be broadly available in 18 months’ time. We will have to coexist with this pandemic for a long time, and the sooner we adapt to the new norms imposed upon us, the better.
This is the reality that we will have to accept to give credence to the notion of “The triumph of the Human spirit”, the title of a book penned by the late Ahmed Kathrada.
It was in this spirit of human perseverance that JHESS hosted the 1st virtual Annual General Meeting on 29 June 2020.
The AGM was a huge success and a new Executive has been elected to serve and continue implementing the sterling programmes of the Society.

In addition to the above, a further 15 members were elected to serve on the Executive for the next twelve months, In Shaa Allah.
The team consists of a blend of dedicated experienced members, and young energetic members, which augurs well for the Society.
Let me take this opportunity to thank all the members who attended the AGM and all the members who have availed themselves to serve this Society on a purely voluntary basis. May Allah reward them and their families, In Shaa Allah. Ameen.
I also wish to express my gratitude to all for their support and for the confidence placed in me to serve and lead this wonderful team of selfless individuals.
We will keep you informed of our activities after the 1st Executive meeting under the leadership of Dr Nisaar Korowlay.
