COVID-19 Update 8

The Western Cape continues to be the epicentre of the COVID-19 pandemic in terms of positive cases and deaths recorded.

Over the past few weeks I have provided advice on measures and guidelines to prevent the spreading of this deadly COVID-19 virus.

We are deeply concerned that some people still believe that this virus does not exist or that nothing will happen to them. The easing of the lockdown does not mean the virus does not exist. The lockdown regulations were eased to mitigate the economic hardships that many are currently experiencing.

I decided, in this update, to narrate true events that happened this week concerning an elderly lady who recently succumbed to this virus.

Since the lockdown started 10 weeks ago, she did not set foot outside her home.

A son who lived with her was asymptomatic. He only went to the shops three times in the 10-week period and contracted the virus, and sadly passed it on to his mother who eventually succumbed to it this week.

This virus is real. It can be contracted by anyone. The consequences can be dire, as in the case of the elderly lady.

Theories abound about the virus, and the symptoms are mild in the majority of cases but you should do your best to protect yourself and others. If anyone saved a nation, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole of humanity. Quran 5:32.

Heed the advice you have been given and play your part in the spirit of Ubuntu. I am because you are. We are in this together. Let us serve, help and protect each other.

Physical distancing and wearing a mask in public is the new norm.
