COVID-19 Update 6

Ramadan 2020 is unique in many ways that will remain etched in our memories forever. We have survived and will continue to survive, through our firm belief in our Creator. The Western Cape continues to be the epicentre of the COVID-19 pandemic and the virus is now rampant within our community. Please act responsibly on the day of Eid. Do not be selective or forget to observe the basic rules of maintaining physical distancing and practicing good hand hygiene. #Stay@Home. If you have to leave your home for an emergency, then wear the cloth face mask correctly, covering your nose and mouth; maintain a physical distance of at least 1.5m; wash your hands frequently, for a minimum of 20 seconds or use a 70% alcohol-based hand sanitiser. Ensure all surfaces and tabletops are cleaned with a detergent at all times. We all need to help prevent the spread of the virus and save lives. I wish one and all a Blessed Eid Mubarak! Eid Message from JHESS President

بسم هللا الرحمن الرحيم اللّهُ أكبر اللّهُ أكبر اللّهُ أكبر ّDear Member Four weeks ago we commenced Ramadan with great trepidation, with the COVID-19 virus casting a pall as we continued in lockdown mode. With the grace of Allah, we have endured these trying times to the best of our abilities and now feel a sense of great sadness as the blessed month of Ramadan – the month of piety, patience, mercy, and forgiveness – draws to an end, taking with it its beautiful days and its fragrant nights. While the day of Eid is a day of immense happiness, we cannot remove the pervading sense of sadness that touches our hearts at the thought of us still being in lockdown, unable to attend Eid Salah in congregation, unable to pay our respects to the families who lost their loved ones, or meet our family and friends on this joyous day of Eid. The JHESS family remembers the following families who will be celebrating Eid ul Fitr without their loved ones: The Firfiray family The Khan Pathan family The Pophlonker families The Sonday familes The Mowzer families The Rawoot family The Bondare family The Koorowlay family The Datay family The Aklekar families The Ashtiker family The Murtuza family The Janjirker family We pray that Allah, in His boundless Kindness and Mercy grant the Marhoom Jannatul Firdaus and continue to guide the families during these difficult times, Ameen. We also congratulate our flowers of the future who have completed fasting for the month of Ramadan for the first time. We make dua that they become upright Muslims who fly the...

COVID-19 Update 5

We are currently all living in unprecedented times, with the recently discovered COVID-19 virus being of unknown epidemiology. The main culprits spreading the infection are the asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic individuals (silent spreaders). We all have a responsibility to contain and prevent the spread of COVID-19.As from 1 May, with the lockdown being pegged at Level 4, it is compulsory to wear the cloth face mask, ensuring the nose and mouth are covered, in order to protect other people. It serves no purpose to have the mask around the neck, or below the mouth and nose.See the picture below. In addition, continue with regular meticulous handwashing (for at least 20 seconds) and maintain physical distancing. COVID-19 Update 4

The Western Cape is currently the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic in South Africa. For the week 30 March to 6 April during the level 5 lockdown 406 positive cases were identified. However 2779 positive cases were reported for the week of 28 April to 5 May 2020. The marked increases in positive cases are due to extensive community screening campaign and targeted testing. The reality is that COVID 19 is prevalent in our community. It is therefore incumbent on all members of society to take responsibility to contain the spread of infection to others to the best of their ability. Wear your masks and wash your hands as frequently as possible and maintain physical distancing at all times. PROTECT THE MOST VULNERABLE STAY VIGILANT SAVE LIVES Dr Nisaar Korowlay Issued: 7 May...
