Since the inception of the Society in 1916 the promotion of education has been the cornerstone of the Society and its activities.

We are proud that this is our flagship project whereby we have assisted hundreds of needy students in the achievement of their academic and Islamic careers over the past 100 years.

We normally call for applications at the end of January and our cut off for application submissions is the end of February in the year of enrollment. For 2026 the closing date is 23 February 2026.

A committee interviews and evaluates the circumstances of the applicants and makes recommendations to the Society.

The Society determines the value of bursary based on the funding budget per year.

Since 2018 Students can apply directly to NSFAS for financial assistance.

Students are requested to familiarise the criteria and conditions of NSFAS as any student that meets the criteria will not be considered by JHESS.
